The aim of my research is to elucidate the mechanotransduction mechanism of osteocyte cells within the bone matrix and to understand the role of osteocyte cells in the bone-tissue remodelling process. To this end, I am developing a nanowire based biosensor for the real-time concentration measurement of soluble signalling factors known to regulate bone formation and resorption. This device will be used to study the in vitro physiological response of osteocyte cells subjected to various mechanical forces.
