The osteocyte is widely accepted as mechanical sensor cells whose function is to respond to mechanical stress. By inducing apoptosis to osteocytes through serum starvation, we can simulate unloading conditions that occur to these bone cells. My research involves determining whether apoptotic or healthy osteocytes in the presence of apoptotic cues are responsible for inducing osteoclast formation.
